Risk-off
Market shorthand for days when investors cut risk: they sell shares and other risky assets and buy safe ones. The opposite, when they buy risk again, is called risk-on.
Example
On 22 October 2026, a fall in technology shares set off a risk-off day: the US 10-year yield had its biggest one-day drop in more than two years.
